Winners of my part in the Valentine Blog Hop

Sorry to have taken long to post the winners, but I had to take my daughter in to the doc and yes, she is losing her tonsils! Poor kid has been sick for five weeks now and finally the doc agrees to remove them AFTER the blood work comes in. Sheesh!

Now to something more fun to talk about ...

The winners are  meandi09@yahoo.com and susanmplatt@hotmail.com!

Thank you to everyone who left comments. Have a great week!

In honor of Love and Valentine's Day, I'm offering my time-travel romances as prizes to two lucky winners. To enter, leave me a comment on what Valentine's Day means to you. Cheers!

Paralyzed and bound by darkness, Setti lay, struggling to resist the terror clawing at his throat. Before Imtep had closed his eyes, he could at least see what was happening around him. Now, he lay blindand helpless.
Was this the Hell he had scoffed at? How had he angered the Gods to such a degree as to warrant such severe punishment? Would he ever see the sun again, feel its warmth upon his face? Would he be free to walk the sands or swim the Nile? Free to live or blissfully die and end the torment he suffered?
Endless hours passed until he heard stone scraping against stone. The damp smell of an earthy mixture of sand, straw, and water invaded the gloom of his imprisonment. The slap of wet mud and the scrape of a metal against rock startled him. Panic assaulted his already chaotic mind when the realization hit him that he was being buried in a tomb. Unable to escape the black void of nothingness surrounding him, holding him hostage, he silently screamed, terrified beyond rational thought. Left to die slowly, entombed and unable to escape, Setti turned to Amun Ra.

RA, please help me. Save me! Do not allow your faithful servant to die such a slow death. Give me life or give me death, but please do not allow me to suffer such an existence!

Silence.
Screaming over and over again, Setti shouted until he could not stand to hear it anymore. There, in the endless empty void of Eternity, he laughed insanely. No one could hear him. He was mute, paralyzed by the curse. To walk between the land of the dead and the living. Walk? Bound in burial linens, he would lie here for eons and none would find him, to release him from his imprisonment. The bitch he called sister had won.
Refusing to give up, he screamed, HELP ME! Someone, anyone, please save me! Dear RA, do not abandon me! Save me!

Upon entering the arena, Anakin held Goliath steady and signaled the stallion into a highstepping trot. Goliath snorted, tossing his head nervously. People cheered as the stallion whipped his long, heavy tail as he arched his neck and preened in the attention.
Inside his tunic, Anakin felt the amulet move, reminding him that he had promised to put it on right before he jousted. Not in the mood for the pageantry, Anakin made one more pass around the roped arena then urged Goliath into a canter toward the end of the list where he would joust from. Rory and Samuel waited there beside six green lances with gold hand guards and tips. He handed his shield down to Rory so he could ready for the joust. Goliath bobbed his head up and down, more than ready to ride the list. Anakin drew one of his gauntlets off and reached through the side of his tunic and withdrew the heavy amulet. He placed the braided gold chain over his head and carefully tucked the stone inside his armor. Putting on his gauntlet again, he unbuckled his sword and wrapped the leather belt through the metal ring on the right of the wide saddle horn, securing it. Taking the shield back, Anakin shifted his arm until he had it positioned across the left side of his body then transferred the reins to his left hand. Anakin reached down to take the lance from Samuel, stopping when he saw his opponent extract himself from the long line of knights still riding around in parade.
Maxwell swung his big-boned bay beside Anakin and saluted with a mocking tip of his head. “So, Sir Anakin, you and I are to meet at last. Been watching you. Not bad for a rookie.”
Samuel dropped the lance and charged forward, his freckled features flushed in outrage. “My lord is not a novice! He is twice the knight you pretend to be.”
“Samuel, back to the lances,” Anakin ordered calmly. The boy jerked his head in a stiff nod and returned to stand by his father who placed his ham-like hand on the boy’s narrow shoulder. To the gaffing hulk of a knight, Anakin respectfully said, “Sir Maxwell, we shall see who the better knight is when the flag falls and whose lance finds its target.”
Not expecting such courtesy, Maxwell touched his brow and slammed down his visor. “Good luck, boy. May your bones mend quickly.” Spurring his steed away, Maxwell rode to where his squire awaited at the opposite end of the list.
The bugling of the trumpets sounded again, and the cheers were deafening. The knights exited the arena, then Anakin and Maxwell rode to the where the King and Queen sat. Raising their shields in salute, the royal couple inclined their crowned heads in acceptance. Returning to their positions, Anakin accepted the lance from Sam and settled the familiar weight across his lap. It was then Anakin took a good, long look at his opponent, growing a bit more concerned by the far heavier knight and the damage Maxwell was renowned to inflict. Maxwell’s bulk outweighed him by at least a hundred pounds which brought a greater force behind a hit from his lance.

The bay Maxwell rode reared, whinnying in nervous agitation. Goliath pricked his ears forward, his powerful muscles tensing in anticipation. A steward, carrying a long wooden pole with a white flag attached, stepped away from the booth where the King and Queen sat. The rising breeze caught the flag, causing it to flutter. Anakin gripped his lance tighter against his body and leaned forward, eyes on the steward. In a slashing motion, the steward dropped the flag and got out of the way.
“Hah!” Anakin shouted, touching his blunted spurs to Goliath’s sides. The stallion rose on his back legs and leapt forward, leveling out much more quickly than their opponent’s horse.
Anakin leaned his weight into the lance, keeping the tip centered on Maxwell’s broad chest. Unexpectedly his eyes burned, his vision blurred by reddish-orange sparks. Concerned, he looked to his right, seeing only the crowds screaming, cheering them on. When Anakin looked forward again, he jerked upward in surprise as a ring of fire roared before him and Goliath. They were going too fast for him to stop his horse. The only chance for survival was to go through the raging flames. Squinting against the unbearable heat, he leaned forward, urging Goliath to gallop faster. Roaring his war cry, they jumped through the flames.
Forcing his eyes open to see the damage done to him and his horse, Anakin drew Goliath to a skidding halt. The flames were still before him, this time it was not to be jumped through--it was a bonfire surrounding the girl from his dream. She was tied to a wooden stake and her eyes were wide in terror as the flames snaked toward the hem of her white dress. The group of peasants chanted in an oddly familiar language, what it was eluded him.

What the hell were they chanting?

Anakin blinked in confusion. Old English or Latin? French maybe? Frustrated, Anakin searched about what to do when the amulet resting against his chest began to hum, the sound vibrating against his skin and in his ears. Rays of teal green shot out from the sides of his breastplate. The beams turned to wisps of smoke drifting up and around his neck. Alarmed, Anakin swatted at it when it reached his helm. Terror consumed him when it entered his visor. Struggling to unbuckle the chin strap, it dawned on Anakin he could understand the peasants’ words.
To his horror, he listened as to the villagers as they screamed, "Kill the witch! Burn her! BURN HER!"
